Gum disease or (Periodontal Disease) is the most common cause of tooth loss. It is a silent disease in its early stage, with few signs and symptoms such as bleeding gums, bad breath and mild discomfort.
 
Other Signs could be associated with more advanced forms of Gum Disease such as movement of teeth, abscess and swelling of the gum with pus discharge.
 
Gum Disease is strongly associated with Heart Disease, both the American Dental Association and the American Heart Association published several articles on the role of gum disease in developing heart disease.
 
Risk Factors:
Patients with certain medical conditions could be at higher risk to Periodontal Disease than others such as Poorly Controlled Diabetics, Immunocompromised, Poor Oral Hygiene and Heavy Smokers.
 
Treatment:
Treatment of Gum Disease in its all stages is done at our office. Early detection and prevention is of paramount importance in preventing Gum Disease and subsequent tooth loss. Periodic Professional cleaning and proper oral hygiene measures is the first line of treatment.
